Getting started!

A great way to get started on your own Challenge is to go to the Footprint Calculator link at the bottom of the left margin topic links. Please figure out and note your current footprint. Then decide what changes you might want to make. Pick one that you think will be easy, and one change you are excited about, and create a plan for change.

Veronica Jacobi is creating this website to help Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, and anywhere else to create small and large changes to create a better future.

The way we guide development in the next few years will be critical to our quality of life for generations. To continue a traditional subdivision approach will result in forced reliance on automobiles, excessive water use, and destruction of greenbelts. We can encourage improving and increasing affordable housing by clustering growth around schools, shopping, and public transportation hubs as well as encouraging safe and attractive pedestrian and bicycle routes.

One of the best ways to solve problems is for neighbors to sit down with neighbors. Let's join with or create community groups to address neighborhood challenges including reducing our individual and collective footprint.

(Google Energy Wise Neighbors for some great ideas!)

Our water and waste water systems need serious attention to support our current residents & future development in an environmentally responsible way.

Please let us know if any of these ideas are helpful to your community.

Please share your success stories and new efforts towared greater sustainability and lower community and individual carbon footprints.

Thank you!

Veronica Jacobi, Santa Rosa Councilwoman
